THE POSSIBILITIES OF USING MODERN AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT WERE DISCUSSED AT THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF TAJIKISTAN

On June 4, 2026, at the request of the Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, was held a meeting at the Technological University of Tajikistan between the university’s administration and a delegation of representatives of US government agencies, the US Embassy in Astana, and international experts in the field of water resources. The purpose of the meeting is discussing issues related to the provision of technical assistance and exchange of experience in the effective management of the country’s water resources.
In The meeting attended by Mr. Wayne Pullan, Regional Director for the Upper Colorado River Basin, Ms. Melissa Foster, a fluvial geomorphologist, Ms. Erin Foraker, Coordinator of Energy and Water Infrastructure Research, and Michelle Kimpel Guzman, Regional Representative for Environment, Science, Technology, and Health at the U.S. Embassy in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Rector of the Technological University of Tajikistan, Zoir Rahmonzoda, provided information about university’s educational and scientific opportunities, priority development areas, and international activities, welcomed the guests. He mention that today the university is one of the leading institutions of higher professional education in the country, playing a key role in training specialists for the food and light industries, information and communications technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, economics, and modern management.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the efficient use and sustainable management of water resources, the application of modern technologies, digitalization, modeling, and automation of water management processes, as well as opportunities for further cooperation in the field of information technology, data analysis, modeling, and the application of innovative technologies.
The parties highly appreciated the constructive role of the Republic of Tajikistan in advancing the global water agenda and noted that the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon have made a significant contribution to attracting the attention of the international community to issues of water resources, climate change, and sustainable development.
At the same time, the parties noted that, in the context of the rapid development of digital technologies, the use of modern tools, including artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent monitoring systems, and data analysis, is becoming increasingly important in addressing issues related to water resource management. In this regard, the experience of US government organizations in the use of artificial intelligence, digital modeling, data analysis and other advanced technologies, as well as the opportunities for cooperation within the framework of relevant state and international programs for capacity development and the implementation of modern practices in this area, were recognized as of great importance.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue, explore opportunities for cooperation, and launch joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
