Strengthening International Cooperation: a productive meeting with British Council director Michael Holgate

On September 7, 2026, Mr. Michael Holgate, Director of Education, culture, and professional relations at the British Council, visited to the Technological University of Tajikistan to familiarize himself with the university’s activities and discuss opportunities for developing joint cooperation. He met with the Rector of the Technological university of Tajikistan Rahmonzoda Zoir Faizali.
Rector of the Technological university of Tajikistan Rahmonzoda Z.F. warmly welcomed the guest and told about the university’s educational and research activities, its existing capacity, and opportunities for expanding scientific and educational cooperation with higher education institutions in Great Britain. Special attention was also paid to the issue of foreign language learning during the meeting.
During the meeting  Rector noted that, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, mandatory of Russian and English language training courses were organized at the university for all staff, who underwent nine months of instruction. Upon completion of the courses, the participants successfully passed language proficiency assessments and received the corresponding certificates.
At the same time, it was remarked that the university attaches great importance to improving the language proficiency of stuff and students are implementing necessary measures to foster a multilingual educational environment. Currently, 23 academic subjects are taught in English at the university.
Mr. Michael Holgate also provided information about the British Council’s projects and initiatives in Tajikistan, emphasizing the significant opportunities available for developing ties between Tajik higher education institutions and universities of the United Kingdom. He notably expressed the readiness of the relevant parties to foster collaborative partnerships, develop direct links between universities, and devise joint educational initiatives.
Continuing the meeting, the university rector outlined specific proposals to strengthen cooperation, including the development and implementation of joint educational programs, the organization of academic exchanges for faculty and students, the expansion of collaboration in English language training, and the utilization of digital education opportunities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties emphasized their readiness to strengthen future cooperation and implement joint initiatives.
